General Manager of the Railway Department W.A.D.S. Gunasinghe said, that India has expressed its willingness to provide 10 locomotives to Sri Lanka under Indian financial assistance.
Before the locomotives are exported, a team of officials attached to the Department of Railways will visit India for a quality check.
Railway services in Sri Lanka have been seriously hampered due to a shortage of locomotives, Gunasinghe said.
Despite old locomotives being repaired, commuters were often inconvenienced due to technical failures, he added.
