As of yesterday (October 4), a total of 122 independent groups have placed deposits to contest the 2024 General Election, according to the Election Commission. Notably, 36 of these groups made their deposits yesterday alone.
The Commission confirmed that deposits have been submitted for 21 out of the 22 electoral districts, with the Matale district being the only exception where no deposits had been made as of yesterday.
The Janasetha Peramuna Party has submitted its nominations for both the Jaffna and Wanni districts, while three additional independent groups also submitted their nominations yesterday.
The nomination period for the 2024 General Election, which began on October 4, will remain open until 12 noon on October 11, 2024.
