The listing phase of the 2024 Population and Housing Census has been successfully completed, covering census units such as residences, business establishments, institutions, and housing complexes.
The Department of Census and Statistics reports that the number of census units in Sri Lanka has nearly doubled over the past four decades, with 8,377,895 units recorded in the latest census, compared to 3,423,486 units in 1981.
The next phase of the census will focus on gathering detailed information about individuals and their housing conditions.
Census officers are legally bound by the Census Ordinance to protect the confidentiality of personal information, while individuals are required to provide accurate data.
“Census Day” has been scheduled for December 19, when the comprehensive census report will be published.
