Commissioner General of Elections, Saman Sri Ratnayake, announced that a total of 764 nomination papers were submitted by political parties and independent groups from 22 electoral districts for the 2024 General Election.
Of these, only 690 nomination papers were accepted, while 74 were rejected.
Speaking to reporters after the nomination period ended this evening (October 11), Ratnayake noted that the Digamadulla electoral district received the highest number of nominations, with 72 submissions. Of these, 64 were accepted, and 8 were rejected.
He also highlighted that the lowest number of nominations, 15 each, were submitted from the Polonnaruwa and Monaragala districts.
Preference numbers for candidates will be announced soon. The nomination process, which began on October 4, concluded at 12:00 noon today, with time allocated until 1:30 p.m. to file objections.
