In response to the prevailing administrative uncertainties within Sri Lanka Cricket, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has made the strategic decision to relocate the Under-19 World Cup to South Africa. This crucial resolution was reached during the ongoing ICC board meeting in Ahmedabad.
Following extensive deliberations, the board has chosen to affirm the earlier decision made on November 10, which entailed the suspension of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC). The ICC board clarified that, while cricket involving the island team will proceed without interruption, the suspension itself will remain in effect and will not be overturned.
A reliable source informed Cricbuzz that the board’s decision to maintain the suspension was unanimous, emphasizing that cricket activities in the country will continue without disruption. The board meeting, where this decision was made, had Sammi Silva, the ousted president of the ICC, in attendance. The meeting took place at ITC Narmada in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, November 21.
The Under-19 World Cup, initially scheduled to occur between January 14 and February 15, will now take place in South Africa. However, these dates will coincide with the second edition of SA20, running from January 10 to February 10. Despite this overlap, a senior Cricket South Africa (CSA) official assured Cricbuzz that both events can be conducted concurrently. The T20 league is being overseen autonomously by a body independent of CSA, facilitating the smooth organization of both tournaments. Source – Cricbuzz
