The State and Provincial Public Service Unions Association has announced the initiation of a countrywide protest campaign, set to commence today at lunchtime. The primary objective is to compel the government to accede to the demand for a minimum salary hike or allowance of Rs. 20,000 for government employees.
In addition to seeking improved compensation, the union is vehemently opposing a budget proposal that suggests deducting 8% from government employees’ salaries for Widows’ and Orphans’ pensions.
