State Trading (General) Corporation Announces Importation of Samba Rice

The State Trading (General) Corporation has confirmed that a consignment of Samba Rice is scheduled to be imported into the country within the next two weeks. Chairman Asiri Walidundara revealed that this importation aligns with a recent cabinet decision to bring in 50,000 metric tons of Samba Rice.

The call for tenders for the importation of Samba Rice concluded on Tuesday (5), and the rice stock is set to be procured from India, according to Walidundara.

Meanwhile, the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has affirmed its commitment to conducting raids to apprehend traders who sell rice above the government-imposed control price. The CAA has taken legal action against more than 1,000 traders who were found to be selling rice at prices exceeding the regulated limits.
