Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has announced the commencement of the distribution of cash rewards pledged during the recent Asia Cup for SLC’s ground staff. On Wednesday morning (December 6), 138 ground staff members of the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium (RPICS) were rewarded by the National Curator, Mr. Godfrey Dabrera. Additionally, 115 members of the ground staff at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium (PICS) in Kandy are scheduled to receive their cash rewards on Friday (December 8).
The cash reward, totaling USD 50,000 (Rs. 16 million), was promised during the 2023 Asia Cup to the ground staff at both the RPICS and PICS grounds. This recognition acknowledges their dedicated service during the tournament, ensuring that practice facilities, outfields, pitches, ground covering and uncovering, and related services were meticulously organized and timely, despite challenging weather conditions.
Recipients of the reward payment include curators, turf supervisors, ground staff, and technical personnel, as confirmed by SLC. The rewards were a collaborative effort between the Asian Cricket Council and Sri Lanka Cricket, with each institution contributing US$25,000 to honor the essential role played by the ground staff in the successful execution of the tournament.
