75th International Human Rights Day: Embracing the Theme of “Freedom, Equality, and Justice for All”

Today marks the 75th observance of International Human Rights Day, commemorating the historic adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the UN General Assembly on December 10, 1948.

Under the theme “Freedom, Equality, and Justice for All,” this year’s celebration resonates with the fundamental principles embedded in the Declaration, emphasizing the universal pursuit of human rights for individuals worldwide.

In a noteworthy coincidence, today also witnesses the prestigious awarding of the United Nations Prize and the Nobel Peace Prize, both conferred every five years. These accolades further underscore the global commitment to championing and safeguarding human rights on an international scale.

Chairman of the Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission, Lalith Dehideniya, has called for enhanced international collaboration to uphold human rights globally. His advocacy emphasizes the imperative of collective efforts in fostering a world where the principles of freedom, equality, and justice are universally acknowledged and protected.
