Department of Meteorology Forecasts Heavy Rains Across Sri Lanka, Caution Advised

The Department of Meteorology has issued a warning of heavy rains expected in several parts of Sri Lanka today, primarily in the afternoon. The forecast indicates showers in the Northern, North-central, and Eastern provinces. Showers or thundershowers are anticipated in various areas of the island after 1:00 p.m.

Fairly heavy showers exceeding 75mm are likely at specific locations in the Central, Sabaragamuwa, Western provinces, as well as the Galle and Matara districts. Simultaneously, showers or thundershowers are forecasted in sea areas off the coast from Pottuvil to Mannar via Batticaloa, Trincomalee, and Kankasanthurai. Similar weather conditions are expected in other sea areas around the island, particularly during the evening or night.

The prevailing North-easterly winds are projected to have a speed of 25-35 kmph, with sea conditions around the island ranging from slight to moderate. However, caution is advised as temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas may be experienced during thundershowers.
