In a significant development, Sri Lanka’s former Sports Minister, Roshan Ranasinghe, has expressed his willingness to assume the role of the 2024 Common Candidate for the Presidential Election, contingent upon the unification of political parties in support of his nomination.

Ranasinghe acknowledged the potential challenges ahead, stating, “If political groups put forth a proposal to designate me as the 2024 Common Candidate, I would readily accept it.”

Asserting Sri Lanka’s abundant resources, including its natural endowments, skilled workforce, and strategic location, he declared, “Sri Lanka has everything it needs.” Ranasinghe believes that with proper management and efficient utilization, these resources can unlock the country’s full potential.

He emphasized the necessity of significantly strengthening the current audit process to effectively combat the longstanding issues of fraud and corruption that have afflicted the nation for years.
