During the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) National Convention, held at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium in Colombo on December 15, former President Mahinda Rajapaksa called for the establishment of a special commission to investigate incidents of harassment faced by SLPP members during the ‘Aragalaya’ protest movement last year.
At the convention, where the SLPP unveiled its political mission titled ‘Ayubowan 2024,’ former President Rajapaksa was unanimously re-elected as the leader of the SLPP. The event saw the participation of SLPP founder Basil Rajapaksa, Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, and various other prominent politicians.
Addressing the attendees, Mahinda Rajapaksa asserted that SLPP members had experienced harassment orchestrated by certain individuals under the guise of the ‘Aragalaya’ protest movement. He vowed, “We will justly resolve these issues one day.”
Meanwhile, Basil Rajapaksa, in his speech, expressed confidence in the SLPP’s success in the upcoming parliamentary election, stating, “Let’s get ready to form our own government,” signaling optimism among supporters.
