India and South Korea Consider Joint Development Projects in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh

India and South Korea are reportedly exploring joint development projects in neighboring Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, according to sources familiar with the matter. This early-stage initiative represents a noteworthy shift in bilateral relations, signaling Seoul’s expanded strategic focus beyond East Asia.

The potential for cooperation between India and South Korea gained traction during discussions between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in September. The talks encompassed various aspects such as trade, investment, defense, and strategic technologies, including semiconductors and battery tech. Additionally, regional issues and the bilateral Special Strategic Partnership were addressed.

With potential projects emerging in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, India and South Korea seem poised to assume a more significant role in regional development, shaping the economic and technological landscape of the Indo-Pacific. Source: MINT
