In a significant development, the Mobile Phone Sales and Dealers’ Association has declared that prices for all categories of mobile phones will experience an increase starting tomorrow, January 1.
During a press conference held today, December 31, the chairman of the association, Samith Senarath, disclosed that the price adjustment will result in an approximate 35% surge in the cost of mobile phones, effective from tomorrow.
Mr. Senarath explained that this decision was prompted by the impending rise in the Value Added Tax (VAT) to 18%, set to take effect on the same day. The association, in response to this tax adjustment, found it necessary to pass on the increased costs to consumers.
