In a significant move, the Freedom People’s Congress (FPC) has officially thrown its support behind Sajith Premadasa, endorsing him as the common candidate for the upcoming Presidential election. This endorsement was formalized during a press conference held at the Opposition Leader’s Office in Colombo.
Dilan Perera, Member of Parliament for the FPC, conveyed a resolute message, affirming, “The Freedom People’s Congress stands united in our commitment to collaborate with the Samagi Jana Balavegaya (SJB).”
Perera’s statement resonates with the stance taken by other influential opposition figures. G. L. Peiris, MP for the FPC, drew attention to the critical challenges faced by the populace, asserting, “The people are grappling to survive. They are turning into living skeletons. In 2024, we need a common platform, a comprehensive program to safeguard the people, in collaboration with the primary opposition party, the Samagi Jana Balavegaya.”
Shan Wijayalal De Silva, another key opposition figure, echoed the plea for unity, stating, “We must transform the current system and establish a more people-friendly administration. Aligning ourselves with the most potent opposition bloc is crucial, which is why we have chosen to participate in this joint program with the SJB.”
