On Tuesday (Jan. 09), an earthquake measuring 6.7 in magnitude struck the Talaud Islands, Indonesia, as reported by India’s National Centre for Seismology (NCS).
The seismic activity occurred on January 9 at 02:18:47 IST, reaching a depth of 80 km. The NCS pinpointed the epicenter at Latitude 4.75 and Longitude 126.38.
The NCS shared details of the event on X, stating, “Earthquake of Magnitude: 6.7, Occurred on 09-01-2024, 02:18:47 IST, Lat: 4.75 & Long: 126.38, Depth: 80 Km, Location: Talaud Islands, Indonesia.”
In a related incident last week, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported a magnitude earthquake striking 98 km WSW of Balai Pungut, Indonesia, on Thursday. The earthquake, with a depth registered at 221.7 km and occurring at 00:41:18 (UTC+05:30), had its epicenter located at 0.709°N and 100.476°E.
As of now, there have been no reports of material damage resulting from either earthquake.
