Island-Wide Strike Looms as Non-Doctor Health Sector Employees Protest Government’s DAT Allowance Decision

Non-doctor employees in the health sector are poised for an island-wide strike on Tuesday, January 16, according to the declarations made by trade unions representing this segment of the workforce.

The massive strike, coordinated by 27 trade unions within the health domain, is driven by dissatisfaction with the government’s decision to exclusively increase the Disturbance, Availability, and Transport (DAT) allowance for doctors.

The primary demand of the impending strike is to express discontent with this decision and insist that non-doctor health sector employees also be granted the DAT allowance.

Last week, hospitals experienced service disruptions, severely impacting healthcare, as a result of a series of token strikes initiated by paramedical and supplementary health services’ unions.
