In a pivotal review meeting held at the Presidential Secretariat with representatives from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Shehan Semasinghe, the Acting Finance Minister of Sri Lanka, engaged in discussions regarding the advancements and challenges in the ongoing economic reforms aimed at addressing the country’s persisting crisis.
Facilitated at the highest level, the meeting witnessed a constructive exchange of perspectives between Minister Semasinghe and IMF Senior Mission Chief Peter Brewer, along with his team.
During the deliberations, the IMF delegation underscored the paramount importance of executing reforms with “precision as intended” to maximize their effectiveness in Sri Lanka’s economic recovery. Notably, the delegation emphasized that these reforms hold a pivotal role in fostering the long-term economic development of Sri Lanka, irrespective of potential future political changes.
Expressing contentment with the progress achieved in implementing the reforms to mitigate the economic crisis, Minister Shehan Semasinghe conveyed his satisfaction during the discussions. Additionally, he acknowledged ongoing talks concerning the pertinent reforms and their associated timelines.
Furthermore, Minister Semasinghe highlighted that the IMF delegation shared insights from their visits to the North and East regions, emphasizing the necessity of incorporating these perspectives into the reform process. The Minister affirmed the commitment to inclusive discussions for a comprehensive and effective economic recovery strategy.
