Colombo Additional Magistrate Orders Red Warrants for Al-Qaeda Suspects Abroad

Colombo’s Additional Magistrate, Pasan Amarasinghe, took decisive action on the 26th, issuing red warrants in English to facilitate the arrest of four individuals suspected of aiding and abetting the Al-Qaeda terrorist organization. This legal move came at the request of the Terrorists Investigation Division (TID).

The red notices target a father and son, along with two other individuals residing in Kaleliya and Kalagedi Henawala areas. Currently believed to be living in Australia and Syria, these suspects face accusations of involvement with Al-Qaeda.

The TID initiated a case against 16 suspects in 2021, leading to the issuance of red warrants for four individuals. The named individuals include Ahmed Khalil Luqman Talib, Ahman Luqmand Haleen, Abdul Bahin Mohammad Lebbe, and Mohammad Pahir Ripon—all reported to be residents of Australia.

This legal action underscores the ongoing efforts to address and curb terrorist activities, demonstrating international cooperation through the issuance of red warrants to aid in the arrest of suspects residing abroad.
