18 Indian Fishermen from Tamil Nadu Return Home After Release by Sri Lankan Navy

A total of 18 Indian fishermen from Tamil Nadu, who were recently arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy, returned home on Tuesday, marking the culmination of a challenging ordeal.

The fishermen arrived in Chennai from Colombo via air travel and were warmly received by officials from the Tamil Nadu fisheries department along with some BJP functionaries.

These fishermen had been apprehended by the Lankan Navy last month for purported maritime violations and were subsequently detained in a prison facility.

Following a legal process, a local court ordered their release earlier this month. However, until their return, they were kept in a camp within Sri Lanka, according to officials familiar with the situation.

Upon arrival in Chennai, the fishermen embarked on the journey back to Ramanathapuram, traveling by road in a vehicle arranged by the state government. Source: PTI
