Iranian Naval Ships, IRINS Bushehr and Tonb, Arrive for Formal Visit to Colombo Port

This morning, on the 16th of February 2024, the Iranian Naval Ships (IRINS) Bushehr and Tonb entered the port of Colombo for an official visit. The Sri Lanka Navy extended a traditional welcome to the visiting ships in adherence to naval customs.

IRINS Bushehr, commanded by Commander MAHDI BALVARDI, is a 107-meter-long vessel with a crew of 270 members. IRINS Tonb, under the command of Commander MOHAMMAD HAJI ZADEH, is a 94.94-meter-long platform with a crew complement of 250.

During their stay in the country, the Commanding Officers of the Iranian ships are scheduled to meet with the Commander Western Naval Area and Director General Operations of the Sri Lanka Navy.

In a bid to enhance cooperation, naval personnel from both nations are expected to participate in various joint programs. The visiting crew members of the Iranian ships will also have the opportunity to explore several tourist attractions in Sri Lanka.

Additionally, there are reciprocal visits planned, with Officer Cadets and personnel from the Sri Lanka Navy visiting the Iranian Naval Ships in Colombo, and vice versa. The Iranian Naval Ships, IRINS Bushehr and Tonb, are set to depart the island on the 19th of February.
