Meteorology Department Predicts Continued Showery and Windy Conditions Due to Southwest Monsoon

The Meteorology Department has announced that the prevailing showery and windy conditions are expected to continue due to the Southwest monsoon.

Showers or thundershowers are anticipated in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-western, Southern, and Northern provinces.

Very heavy showers, around 150mm, are likely in some areas of the Sabaragamuwa province and the Nuwara-Eliya district. Additionally, heavy showers exceeding 100mm are expected in parts of the Western and North-western provinces, as well as the Kandy, Mannar, Galle, and Matara districts.

Elsewhere on the island, showers or thundershowers are expected at various locations.

Strong winds, ranging from 50-60 kmph, are forecasted for the Western slopes of the central hills and in the Northern, North-central, Western, Southern, and North-western provinces, as well as the Trincomalee district.

Fairly strong winds, around 30-40 kmph, can be expected at times in other parts of the island.
