US Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Julie Chung, met with Chairman of the Election Commission, R.M.A.L. Rathnayake, to discuss the upcoming elections in Sri Lanka.
Ambassador Chung inquired about concerns regarding the conduct of the elections. In a post on X, she mentioned that they exchanged views on the importance of voting in free and fair elections as a pillar of democratic governance.
Chairman Rathnayake reiterated that the upcoming elections will be conducted according to the powers vested in him by the Constitution.
In recent days, Ambassadors from the European Union, the High Commissioner of the United Kingdom, and several others have also met with members of the Election Commission to discuss the upcoming election process.
