After Sri Lankan dies in custody, Kepong MP asks for space and time for cops to probe matter

DAP’s Lim Lip Eng has today requested all parties to give the police space and time to investigate the death of a 43-year-old Sri Lankan while in custody of the Jinjang central lockup on September 30.

Despite that, the Kepong MP said he believes serious action must be taken when there is a death in police custody.

Lim also said that if there is no closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, the police must explain why.

The victim was previously arrested with his wife on September 22 to investigate the murder of three Sri Lankan men at a rented house in Jalan Perhentian Kampung Kovil Hilir, Sentul.

There are seven remaining suspects left in remand for the murder investigation.

Lim said he would meet with Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Alaudeen Abdul Majid to discuss custodial death and public safety issues in the Federal Territory.
