Sri Lanka and India are poised to form a joint venture to execute a power grid connectivity project, Daily Mirror learns.
The countries are working on an undersea transmission line that will link the power grids of both nations. The proposal involves connecting Anuradhapura in Sri Lanka to Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu, India, via a direct power line. Following a 130 km overland transmission line in India, an undersea line (via a submarine cable) will emerge at Thiruketheeswaram in Mannar, northeast Sri Lanka.
With the Detailed Project Report (DPR) completed, the two sides will now work on forming the joint venture to execute the project according to a business model.
This project will enable Sri Lanka to realize its potential of 200 gigawatts of wind and solar energy. The proposed joint venture is expected to raise the necessary finances for the project.
