Pathum Nissanka’s Record-Breaking Century Propels Jaffna Kings to Victory in Lanka Premier League 2024

The group-stage round of the Lanka Premier League 2024 is halfway through. The Jaffna Kings, led by Charith Asalanka, are top of the table with 6 points from 4 games, while Wanindu Hasaranga’s Kandy Falcons are last with just 2 points from four matches.

On July 9, the table-toppers faced the bottom-placed team as the Jaffna Kings locked horns with the Kandy Falcons at the Dambulla Stadium.

It was a Pathum Nissanka show, as the 26-year-old opener for the Jaffna Kings scored a scintillating century.

Batting first, the Jaffna Kings posted 224/7. Nissanka scored 119 off 59 balls, featuring 16 fours and four sixes.

Nissanka shattered several records with his innings, most notably smashing the highest individual score in Lanka Premier League history. He surpassed Laurie Evans, who held the previous record with 108* off 65 balls in the 2020 edition. Here is the updated list of highest individual scores in the Lanka Premier League:

  • 119 (59) – Pathum Nissanka vs KAF, 2024
  • 108* (65) – Laurie Evans vs JS, 2020
  • 104* (63) – Tim Seifert vs JK, 2024
  • 104 (59) – Babar Azam vs GT, 2023
  • 102* (67) – Andre Fletcher vs CS, 2022
  • 102* (52) – Kusal Perera vs JK, 2024

It is worth noting that Nissanka was not picked in the first round of the LPL auction in May.
