The Ministry of Transport and Highways has announced plans to expand the regulatory powers of the National Transport Commission (NTC) through an upcoming amendment to the National Transport Commission Act.
According to Ranjith Rupasinghe, Secretary to the Ministry of Transport and Highways, the bill will be tabled in Parliament in August.
The proposed amendments will extend the National Transport Commission’s regulatory authority to include passenger transportation services provided by three-wheelers, taxis, and school buses, in addition to the currently regulated bus sector.
