Department of Meteorology Issues ‘Red’ Warning for Strong Winds and Rough Seas

The Department of Meteorology has issued a ‘Red’ warning for strong winds and rough seas for naval and multi-day fishing communities in the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal.

According to the warning, very strong winds of 70-80 km/h and very rough seas are expected in the Arabian Sea (in areas bounded by 10N – 20N and 55E – 75E) and the Bay of Bengal (in areas bounded by 12N – 17N and 83E – 93E) due to active southwest monsoonal conditions.

Naval and fishing communities are advised not to venture into the sea areas marked in ‘red’ on the map below until further notice. Those already in these areas are advised to return to the coast or move to safer areas immediately.

Naval and fishing communities are also urged to stay updated with future forecasts issued by the Department of Meteorology.
