Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Ali Sabry Meets Romanian Prime Minister to Strengthen Bilateral Relations

Sri Lanka’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ali Sabry, met with Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu during his official visit to Romania and Poland.

The Romanian PM and Minister Sabry discussed the importance of cooperation among middle-income countries to overcome the multiple crises facing the world.

Posting on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), the Sri Lankan Foreign Minister noted that Ciolacu emphasized the modern political focus on economics and praised the closely integrated Sri Lankan workforce in Romania, which has created a mutually beneficial partnership.

The two leaders agreed to further consolidate Sri Lanka-Romania relations in various identified areas, according to Minister Sabry.

Romanian PM Ciolacu, also posting on ‘X’, welcomed the Sri Lankan government’s decision to open an embassy in Romania, highlighting their growing bilateral collaboration.

“Talks with Foreign Minister Mohamed Ali Sabry were a good opportunity to foster our economic and sectoral cooperation in labor, education, IT, cybersecurity, emergency management, tourism, and the port sector,” he added.

During his visit, Sabry also met with the President of the Romanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mihai Daraban, discussing the potential for connections between Colombo Port and Constanța Port to enhance maritime connectivity, shipping, and logistics.

Sabry mentioned that future exchanges of business delegations would help identify synergies, adding on ‘X’, “…was happy to hear that 171 companies in Romania have business engagements with Sri Lanka.”

Discussions were also held on strengthening interactions between the parliamentary friendship groups of the two countries when the Sri Lankan FM met with the President of the Romanian Senate, Nicolae Ciucă.
