Government to Reconsider Egg Imports Amid High Local Prices

The Ministry of Trade has announced that the government is once again focusing on the import of eggs.

In response to an inquiry by Ada Derana, a spokesperson from the ministry stated that this decision is driven by local egg producers consistently maintaining high prices. The spokesperson further highlighted that local producers are deliberately limiting the supply of eggs to keep prices elevated. Additionally, these producers have resorted to selling their animals for meat to further control egg production and sustain high prices.

A discussion on this matter is scheduled for tomorrow (22), during which further measures to address the ongoing issue will be considered.
