Sri Lanka’s inflation increased to 2.4% in June, up from 1.6% in May, according to the national consumer price index. This rise appears to have led to higher spending on transport, alcoholic beverages, and tobacco.
Inflation in the transport category rose from 6.9% to 7.5% during the period. Conversely, inflation in the hotels and restaurants category decreased from 4.9% to 4.3%.
In the category of alcoholic beverages and tobacco, inflation increased from 26.6% to 27.1%.
Food inflation, which was reported at 0.5% in May, rose to 1.9% in June.
For non-food items, inflation increased from 2.4% to 2.7%. However, the cost of water, electricity, and gas decreased during the same period.
