The Elections Commission of Sri Lanka has announced that the Gazette notification regarding the Presidential Election date will be published tomorrow (26th July 2024).
“I hereby inform that the Election Commission, which convened today, has decided to publish the Gazette Extraordinary Notification to announce the date for proclaiming the Presidential Election and the nomination date in accordance with the provisions of the Presidential Elections Act, No. 15 of 1981, which will be declared on the 26th day of July 2024,” stated the chairman of the commission.
Furthermore, the Election Commission clarified that it holds no responsibility for statements made by various individuals and parties regarding the day of the presidential poll and other constitutional functions.
The National Election Commission held a meeting today (25th July 2024) to finalize the date for the upcoming Presidential Election and the nomination date. The meeting, chaired by Election Commission Chairman R.M.A.L. Rathnayake, was convened to reach a final consensus on these crucial dates.
The commission had previously announced that preliminary arrangements for conducting the presidential election have already been completed.
