Over 50 Foreign Nationals Arrested in Puttalam for Alleged Online Scam, Say Sri Lanka Police

Sri Lanka Police have announced the arrest of over 50 foreign nationals in the Puttalam area for their alleged involvement in an online scam. According to Acting Police Media Spokesperson DIG Ruwan Gunasekara, the operation, conducted yesterday (30th), resulted in the arrest of 44 males and 9 females.

The suspects were reportedly operating the illegal scheme from a hotel in the Kalpitiya area of Puttalam. The arrests followed a search of the hotel by investigation officers, carried out under a court order.

During the operation, the police seized 98 mobile phones, 44 computers, and a large number of SIM cards. Further investigations are being led by the Computer Crime Investigation Division.

In addition, based on information provided by the arrested suspects, two more foreign nationals were apprehended while in possession of over Rs. 10 million in cash, which has also been taken into police custody.
