Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena has stated that he will not engage in discussions with the Chief Justice regarding the issue concerning the Inspector General of Police (IGP).
The Speaker emphasized that there is no legal basis for such a discussion with the Chief Justice on this matter and reiterated that, under these circumstances, he would refrain from any discussions.
This follows a recent interim order by the Supreme Court preventing Deshabandu Tennakoon from performing his duties as IGP. Subsequently, the President suggested that the issue concerning the IGP should be resolved through discussions between the Chief Justice and the Speaker.
