Sri Dalada Esala Perahera Begins with ‘Kap Situweema’ Ceremony in Kandy

The Sri Dalada Esala Perahera of the Sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic in Kandy commenced this morning (August 5) with the traditional ‘Kap Situweema’ ceremony.

The ‘Kap Situweema’ rituals for the ‘Natha’, ‘Vishnu’, ‘Kataragama’, and ‘Paththini’ devalayas were conducted at the auspicious time of 4:10 a.m. today.

Following the five-day internal procession of the ‘Satara Maha Dewalayas’, the first Kumbal Perahera is scheduled to parade through the streets on August 10, according to Pradeep Nilanga Dela, the Diyawadana Nilame of Kandy.
