Despite the Election Commission’s directive to suspend the Rs. 3,000 allowance for pensioners during the election period, the Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration has issued a circular concerning its distribution.
On August 7, 2024, circulars were sent to Ministry Secretaries, Heads of Departments, District Secretaries, and Divisional Secretaries, notifying them that the allowance payments will start from September.
The Election Commission had recently instructed the Ministry of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils, and Local Government to suspend the allowance until the conclusion of the presidential election. This directive was discussed during a meeting with ministry secretaries at the Election Commission.
The Election Commission has stated that issuing a circular to distribute the allowance while disregarding their order is a violation of election laws.
