Special Traffic and Security Measures for Presidential Election Nominations

Sri Lanka Police has announced a special traffic and security program during the period when the Election Commission will accept nomination papers for the September 21 Presidential Election.

To ensure peace and security, over 1,000 officers, including personnel from the Police Special Task Force, will be deployed in key areas around the Election Commission in Rajagiriya. This comprehensive security operation will include the installation of roadblocks and the deployment of mobile patrols, according to Acting Police Spokesperson DIG Ruwan Gunasekera.

Additionally, 300 police officers will be specifically assigned to manage traffic flow. A special traffic plan will be in effect from 8 AM to 2 PM, aiming to minimize congestion and ensure smooth movement.

Traffic Restrictions:

  • The exit lane on Sri Jayawardenapura Road from Ayurveda Junction to Rajagiriya Junction will be completely restricted.
  • Motorists are advised to avoid Sri Jayawardenapura Road from Polduwa Junction to DS Senanayake Junction unless absolutely essential.
  • Cotta Road, Ayurveda Junction, and Old Kotte Road from Rajagiriya Junction to Borella Junction should also be avoided during this period unless necessary.

Presidential candidates encountering travel difficulties due to vehicular congestion can seek assistance by calling 0718 591 741 or 0112 433 333.

Nominations will be officially accepted on Thursday (15), with a specific timeframe from 9 AM to 11:30 AM allocated for raising objections to the nominations. Following the objection period, independent candidates and those from various parties will be assigned their symbols.
