Nominations for Presidential Election Begin at Election Secretariat

Nominations for the upcoming Presidential Election commenced at 9:00 a.m. today at the Election Secretariat in Rajagiriya. The window for submission will remain open until 11:00 a.m.

Candidates who made their deposits by 12:00 noon on August 14, 2024, for the election scheduled on September 21, are expected to submit their nominations at the Election Commission office by the 11:00 a.m. deadline today.

Meanwhile, written objections can be submitted by opposing candidates or individuals who have signed the nomination papers of opposing candidates between 9:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. on the day of nomination.

The deadline for placing deposits for the 2024 Presidential Election concluded at 12:00 noon on Wednesday (August 14), with a total of 40 individuals making deposits to contest. This group comprises 22 candidates from recognized political parties, one from other political parties, and 17 independent candidates nominated by voters.

A short while ago, President Ranil Wickremesinghe, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, National People’s Power (NPP) Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake, MJP Leader Dilith Jayaweera, and SLPP candidate Namal Rajapaksa arrived at the Election Commission in Rajagiriya to submit their nomination papers for the upcoming presidential election.
