The Department of Meteorology has forecast showers or thundershowers over the next 36 hours in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western provinces, as well as in the Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle, and Matara districts.
Fairly heavy showers exceeding 75 mm are likely in parts of the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, and in the Galle and Matara districts, the department added.
Showers or thundershowers are also expected in several other areas of the island during the evening or night.
In addition, the Meteorology Department reports that fairly strong winds of 30-40 km/h may occur over the western slopes of the central hills and in the Northern, North-Central, and North-Western provinces, as well as in the Hambantota district.
The general public is advised to take precautions to minimize potential damage from temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
