The Department of Wildlife Conservation has launched a comprehensive wild elephant survey, the first of its kind in 13 years.
The survey, which began on Saturday, aims to collect crucial data on the elephant population across Sri Lanka. Observations are being conducted at 3,130 centers nationwide, with 7,300 officers dedicated to the task.
This extensive effort is a collaborative initiative involving the Department of Wildlife Conservation, the National Zoological Park Department, the Forest Conservation Department, the Armed Forces, and university students.
Data is being collected under various categories, including female elephants, male elephants, and other classifications. This initiative is expected to provide valuable insights into the current status of the wild elephant population and guide future conservation efforts.
