Election Commission to Issue Gazette Setting Spending Limits for Presidential Candidates

The Commissioner General of Elections, Saman Sri Ratnayake, announced that a Gazette notification will be issued tonight to establish the maximum amount a Presidential Candidate can spend on each voter during election campaigns.

The spending limit for each candidate will be set at Rs. 109.00 per voter, as per the notification.

All upcoming national elections will be governed by new campaign finance laws, which will restrict the amount of money that candidates, political parties, and independent groups can spend on their campaigns.

In preparation for the upcoming presidential election, the Election Commission has consulted with various stakeholders to brief them on the new legislation and to gather their views and suggestions on setting the spending limit and implementing the laws.
