NPP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake Outlines Plan to Eliminate Poverty and Combat Corruption

National People’s Power (NPP) leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake announced today that an NPP-led government will take charge with a comprehensive plan to eliminate poverty while curbing waste, theft, and corruption.

Speaking at a rally in Galgamuwa, Dissanayake detailed the NPP’s strategy to develop agriculture, bolster the rural economy, and support micro-industries.

He pledged that the NPP government would provide a minimum allowance of Rs. 10,000 to low-income families until they achieve sufficient income levels.

“We will take care of the poor,” Dissanayake said. “We will reduce electricity tariffs by one-third and lower fuel prices. Additionally, we will remove VAT on food, health, and education.”

He also promised to establish a development bank that would offer loans at low-interest rates without requiring property guarantees, and mentioned plans to conduct a survey to waive farmers’ loans.

Dissanayake emphasized that an NPP government would recover Rs. 1,100 billion in defaulted taxes from various entities, including liquor manufacturers, and ensure that all tax revenue is directed to the Treasury.

He assured that the NPP would not seek revenge after coming to power but would take necessary action to recover stolen property, stating, “It is not about revenge; it is about delivering justice.”
