Dengue Cases in 2024 Surpass 35,000, With Colombo District Hardest Hit

The total number of dengue cases reported in 2024 has exceeded 35,000, according to the National Dengue Control Unit.

As of August 20, a total of 35,375 cases have been documented, with Colombo district accounting for the highest number at 8,599 cases.

The Western Province has the highest provincial tally with 14,448 cases, while August alone has seen 2,630 new cases.

Health officials are urging the public to maintain cleanliness and eliminate mosquito breeding sites, particularly in light of recent heavy rainfall across several regions of Sri Lanka.
