Weather Advisory: Showers Expected in Several Provinces, Strong Winds Likely

The Department of Meteorology forecasts several spells of showers in the Northern Province today (28), while light showers are expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-western provinces, as well as in the Galle and Matara districts.

Additionally, showers or thundershowers are likely in a few locations in the Uva Province and the Ampara and Batticaloa districts during the evening or night.

Fairly strong winds, ranging from 30-40 km/h, are anticipated in the Northern, North-central, and North-western provinces, and in the Hambantota and Trincomalee districts.

The department also noted that from August 28 to September 6, the sun will be directly overhead due to its apparent southward motion. Today, the sun will be overhead at approximately 12:11 p.m. in Delf Island, Pooneryn, Thadduvankoddi, and Chundikkulam.

The public is advised to take necessary precautions to minimize the impact of temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
