Chinese and Indian Warships Depart Sri Lanka After Successful Naval Visit and Joint Exercises

The trio of Chinese People’s Liberation Army Navy warships—”HE FEI,” “WUZHISHAN,” and “QILIANSHAN”—along with Indian Naval Ship (INS) Mumbai, departed Sri Lanka following a successful formal visit that began on August 26.

Before their departure, the Chinese warships conducted a Passage Exercise (PASSEX) with SLNS Vijayabahu. Similarly, INS Mumbai engaged in a PASSEX with SLNS Gajabahu, which included communication and tactical maneuvering exercises, concluding with a traditional cheer ship salute.

The Sri Lanka Navy emphasized that port calls by foreign naval ships play a crucial role in fostering collaboration among naval forces and enhancing diplomatic ties. These visits facilitate joint naval exercises and training, providing opportunities for the exchange of knowledge and information on unique maritime environments, which is particularly valuable in addressing shared maritime challenges.
