India’s National Security Advisor, Ajit Doval, met with President Ranil Wickremesinghe at the Presidential Secretariat this morning (30), according to the President’s Media Division. The discussions focused on ongoing economic collaboration between Sri Lanka and India.
Doval, widely recognized as one of India’s most distinguished spymasters, is serving his third term as NSA. In 2019, he became the first NSA to serve two terms. A former Intelligence Bureau chief, Doval is only the second NSA, after M.K. Narayanan, to have a professional background in intelligence.
Doval arrived in Sri Lanka yesterday for an official visit at the invitation of the Sri Lankan government. He is in the country to attend the Colombo Security Conclave (CSC), which addresses key issues including maritime security, counter-terrorism, and cybersecurity. The conclave brings together National Security Advisors and Deputy NSAs from India, Sri Lanka, Maldives, and Mauritius, with Bangladesh and the Seychelles participating as observers.
During his two-day visit, Doval is scheduled to participate in a signing ceremony. Reports suggest that several prominent Sri Lankan political figures have extended invitations for discussions with Doval, though no official statements have been made regarding his visit, which takes place just three weeks before Sri Lanka’s Presidential elections on September 21.
