Anura Kumara Dissanayake Vows to Cut Electricity Bills by One-Third if Elected President

National People’s Power (NPP) presidential candidate Anura Kumara Dissanayake has pledged to reduce electricity bills by one-third under his administration. He made this announcement during a public rally in Mt. Lavinia, emphasizing his commitment to alleviating the financial burden on citizens.

“There is no point in building a country if the people are oppressed. We are developing the country step by step. First and foremost, we will provide relief to the people,” Dissanayake stated.

Outlining his plans, he said, “We will reduce the electricity bill by one-third in a very short time. For example, if the current bill is 3,000 rupees, it will be reduced to 2,000 rupees. A bill of 9,000 rupees will be cut to 6,000 rupees. By eliminating theft, reviving the LNG-powered power plant system, and prioritizing renewable energy, we can further reduce electricity bills.”

He assured the public that an NPP-led government would implement these changes.

Dissanayake also addressed fuel prices, criticizing them as unjust and inflated due to fraud. He promised that the NPP would work to lower fuel costs.

“The government has imposed heavy taxes, and we are committed to easing this burden by tackling fraud and corruption, ultimately providing oil at a lower price. Our priority is to restore the lives of ordinary people to normalcy,” he added.
