Ranil Wickremesinghe Calls for Unity and Collective Action in National Recovery Efforts

Independent presidential candidate Ranil Wickremesinghe has called for collective action to advance the nation, urging all parties to refrain from blaming each other as the country strives towards recovery. Wickremesinghe made these remarks during his address at the Sri Lanka Mahajana Party General Conference held in Kurunegala, attended by party leader Asanka Navaratne and other key figures.

Emphasizing the need for a unified approach to national development, Wickremesinghe stated, “There is no other way. We all have suffered. False promises are being made once again—claims of progress in five years or tax reductions. None of these will succeed. If taxes are reduced, our revenue decreases. When our revenue decreases, the IMF does not support us, and we will face the same issues again.”

Wickremesinghe stressed the importance of strengthening the country’s GDP and overall economy, cautioning against misinformation and deceptive practices. “You can’t lie about the country’s economy. People cannot be deceived by falsehoods,” he warned.

Reflecting on past shortcomings, Wickremesinghe urged all political parties to adopt a forward-looking approach, working together without pointing fingers. “Each party has made mistakes from time to time, and we have fallen short because of them. Now, without blaming each other, let’s move forward together,” he concluded.
