Surge in Dengue Cases Expected Amid Heavy Rains, Health Officials Warn

Following weeks of relentless rainfall, health officials are warning of a significant rise in Dengue cases.

Director of the National Dengue Control Unit, Dr. Sudath Samaraweera, stated that preventive measures have been intensified in high-risk areas. “Currently, there are 20 high-risk MOH areas,” he noted.

He urged the public to maintain clean surroundings and eliminate mosquito breeding sites to help curb the spread of Dengue.

As of September 1, Sri Lanka has reported 36,728 Dengue cases, with the highest number recorded in the Colombo district at 9,012. The Western Province leads province-wise with 15,208 cases, and the month of August alone saw 3,897 reported cases.
