International Election Observers to Meet Sri Lanka’s Election Commission Today

A meeting between international election observers and members of the Election Commission of Sri Lanka is scheduled for today (18th) at the Commission’s premises. This marks the first interaction between the international observers monitoring the upcoming presidential election and the Election Commission.

Representatives from the Asian Network for Free Elections (ANFREL) and the Commonwealth Observer Group (COG) are expected to attend the discussion.

The observers will visit various districts across the island starting tomorrow for election monitoring.

Meanwhile, the People’s Action for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL) emphasized the need to maintain law and order during the final week of the election period. PAFFREL’s Executive Director, Rohana Hettiarachchi, urged the public to disregard false reports and rumors that could cause unnecessary fear.
